The Governor-General’s Youth Award for Excellence, recognises those young persons who have demonstrated a healthy social conscience, while performing at the highest level in academics and entrepreneurship,” Sir Kenneth stated. The Governor-General noted that the scheme sends a clear message that good work will not go unnoticed, adding that it is a show of appreciation for the valuable work of and role played by the many individuals, groups, and organisations across the country, who are actively involved in promoting and facilitating community development.“It is our way of celebrating these unsung heroes. The Awards allow us to give them the recognition that they deserve and to celebrate their contribution to national development, as we seek to shape a just society for our people. These recipients illustrate that we, as a people, have the will and social capacity to establish our agenda for continued development. Equally important is the message that is being conveyed to our young people, that they can engage in the building of human and social capital, that will foster national dialogue and promote harmony and stability,” he said.
